How to Deal With Negative Thoughts and Emotions

Depression, Anxiety, Self-Loathing.  Did I get your attention?  These emotions are something everyone encounters on an almost daily basis.  Some deal with it consistently, every day, all day.  I need to preface this by saying dealing with these thoughts is remarkably easier said than done, I know from personal experience.  Let’s start with a little anecdote.  Throughout high school, I found myself in a pretty dark place.  Now, when I say dark place, I don’t mean take I was contemplating drastic measures to fix them.  I mean lackadaisical work ethic, no motivation or ambition, the feeling of impending failure do to my poor outlook on myself and everyone around me.  I was a cynical teenager, and in all honesty I’m still a pretty cynical 21 year old now.  Battling the negative thoughts that plagued my conscious was definitely an uphill battle, but I’m going to provide some insight as to how I exactly did it. Keep An Objective Mindset When attempting to deal with negative thoughts, it’s really easy to fall down the never-ending rabbit hole of negativity.  Looking at things in an objective manner keeps a realistic perspective on the issues at hand.  This thought process can be very detrimental as well though, and if you find yourself feeling even more troubled from these thoughts you should seek additional help.  Even if you resort to getting help from a third-party, they’re going to influence you to keep an objective mindset.  This will help prevent things being blown out of proportion, and to stay reasonable. Develop a Healthy Hobby I run, a lot.  Finding an organic way to alleviate...

Free Antivirus To Protect Home Computers

Taking the precautionary steps to prevent any sort of malicious content plaguing your computer is absolutely critical.  From personal experience, working on family computers that is, this seems to be overlooked quite often.  In all honesty, if you’re computer literate that is, not having an antivirus installed isn’t the end of the world.  When I built my computer in 2012, I went without any sort of antivirus program for almost 2 years.  Everything went without a hitch until one day I was attacked at a personal level.  To this day, I’m not entirely sure how they gained access to my computer. I looked pretty in depth to find answers, but hit brick walls every turn of the way.  The non-official consensus is some sort of phishing attack.  Staying up late at night, sleep deprived, I most likely clicked on a link that was just one character off from the real website URL, and BAM, my information is scattered for all to see.  After extensive cleaning, I started looking into free antivirus software, and narrowed it down to three reputable options.   Microsoft Security Essentials MS Security Essentials was the first piece of software my friends directed me to.  It’s completely free of charge, and very dependable.  Considering it has been developed by the creators of the OS I was using, it seemed like a good bet.  The interface is relatively streamlined and easy to understand quickly.  It looks for the most basic of threats, and actually detected several registry issues when I first installed it.  I still have it on my computer after several years, and I don’t plan...

What Are The Advantages of Wired vs. Wireless Workplace?

With the rapid evolution into wireless connectivity, a question is posed: Is it still viable to keep the workplace hardwired, or is the technology becoming obsolete?  There are obviously advantages and disadvantages to both wired and wireless, but which reigns supreme?   Wireless Network Pros Less demanding to maintain Easier to expand BYOD policies becoming prominent Flexibility for employees Cleaner work environment Wireless Network Cons Security Issues [Network expands beyond walls of business] BYOD can become problematic Speeds are significantly slower Range is limited without several access points Wireless Networks are an awesome compliment to a hardwired network in my personal opinion.  It’s pretty obvious that just having one and not the other these days will only hinder productivity and efficiency.  The biggest issue with a wireless network is security.  With all of the critical corporate information in the airwaves, it becomes a lot easier to obtain for malicious purposes.   Wired Network Pros Control from a administration perspective Increased security Increased speed Far more reliable technically speaking Cost-effective Wired Network Cons More maintenance required Cluttered infrastructure Difficult to expand Hindrance to employee flexibility Wired Networks are the legacy system that have been implemented in corporate environments for 30 plus years.  For all of that time, it’s gotten the job done in an efficient, cost-effective manner. It provides unrivaled security measures, speed and reliability.  Contrasting the two systems makes it evident that they really do compliment each other’s weak points.  With that being said, what is the better option? If I had to choose between the two, it would have to be a wired environment.  The pros outweigh the...
