Why start mobile device repair business? Benefits of the repair for society, for community, for people and yourself

By Andrew Jones   What does it mean to be a community?  A community is not just a bunch of people.  It is not a few homes next to one another. A community is place  where people can trust and rely on one another to help each other and be there for each other. having a mobile device repair shop that understands its community and is trusted by the people of the community would be a great thing. People of the community rely on their devices for everyday life. Having a friendly convenient place to bring their broken device and not cost them a lot of money is ideal for a normal community. Believe it or not, community members do not understand that a computer shop is sometimes also a mobile device repair shop. In our case this is what we would like to see more of. Computer repairs along with a mobile device repair shop. With them combined people can find the service they need without searching quite as far. Trusting a local business as a customer rather than a big retailer as a number. Many people put a lot of trust in to the computer tablet or device they use these days. They add this credit card to this website and that amazon account. Then the device with that information on it breaks and they need a screen replaced. How will they know that their personal information has not been compromised? They know the local device business that they have brought all of the other devices they have broken to and know that the guy there...

Soldering Techniques or Soldering The Art

Mobile device repairs are not always the easy snap clips and small screws they can be made out to be. Sometimes there is a piece that is attached on the main board that needs changed out. It has been seen where a motor for the vibration has wires soldiered directly on the main board. What do you do to fix your phone? You need remove the connections without ruining the main board! A couple techniques to fixing these kind of repairs are quite challenging but may be rewarding if you can properly use them. One of my favorite techniques is the indirect heat technique. This technique requires some tools before you can just jump right in to it. You will need an adjustable heat gun capable of switching temperatures on the fly based on the kind of soldier the company used. You will also need a pair of helping hands. No those are not a friends hands. Helping hands are a pair of metal clips that have a weighted base. By using helping hands it will keep your hands and fingers from being burnt from the heat that your heat gun is producing. You will need a couple nice pairs of needle nose pliers preferably with rubber heat resistant handles. Last last two things are soldier and some flux. Those two will be used when attaching your new part to the main board. We used this technique above to practice in class. I have never done soldering in that way before. I thought it was going to take a very long time to heat it up because you are...

How to select quality replacement parts for mobile device repair

Mobile device repair is a great for the everyday person. Not everyone has the large amount of money in the bank to cover most manufactures pricey repair costs. Most people also do not think about the extended warranties. The going rate for most Apple repairs is in the hundreds of dollars. Those repairs include screens, digitizers and cracked glass. Some of the same parts that Apple would use to fix your device can be found on the internet for a lot less than one hundred dollars.  Most of these parts can be purchased from online sites and implemented with some focus and the right knowledge. Original equipment manufacturer is a term used by many websites when they are selling parts. What does OEM even mean? It means the Original parts made by the company that designed and sold them as a whole device. When a part is not OEM it is not the end of the world. It may be just a different person remaking the OEM design. Many parts that are not OEM are often great replacements and save the customer lots of money and headache. Some manufacturers like Samsung have many parts available to order. When customer service is called they can find the OEM replacement in a warehouse and they can ship you that exact part to repair your device. With this, if all is done correctly your device will be close to brand new. If OEM parts cannot be located many others are on the internet. Most any part can be found. These parts are for the newest devices as well as the old devices....

Tips and Tricks to Modern Cell Phone and smartphone Disassembly and Reassembly!

Today’s mobile devices are designed with the user in mind! Just because you can remove a screw or two does that mean you can successfully disassemble and reassemble your mobile phone? I’m thinking you may be surprised at what you find inside the hidden clips and plastic snaps that hold everything where they should be. One wrong twist or turn and that device you thought you could fix is now a paperweight that won’t go back together! Their are tons of hidden obstacles along the way they come in all shapes, sizes and are hidden in every little inch of the phone. In my awesome mobile device repair class we are challenged by every make and model of phone we can find. I started with a small, white and really dirty Huawei cell phone. This phone is very basic and simple compared to most. This phone has some small clips and can be slightly tricky along the way! The dis-assembly started by removing the back-plate and battery both of which a daily user should be able to do. Once you remove the sim card and get your small tool kit out. You start by removing the six really small torx number five screws. One of which are hidden under a small black sticker. If you would not remove the little black sticker, that one screw would keep you outside a brick wall of a phone back cover.  Once all screws are removed, you will need to use a spreading tool to run around the edges of your devices. If you are not gentle with the spreading of your device you may crack either the...

Why smartphones, tablets, laptops and other electronic devices should be designed repairable

Do you ever have any accidents? Do you ever drop anything? I’m guessing yes, no one is perfect. Say you spent five hundred dollars on a device. Something happens in a split second and you accidentally drop it and your beautiful device becomes a paper weight! It causes frustration while it empties your pockets of your hard earned money. Many items are designed to be repaired these days because a good company knows their customers are not perfect and make mistakes. Apple for one is a great company for their idevice designs. I would guess the ifamily has been the most repaired electronic device of the twenty first century! The famous repairs sway from the old IPods needing a new battery after a few years. To the brand new iPhone five needing a new screen after you dropped it from your pocket perfectly on the corner. The iPads are so big the wrong pressure on the screen is going to crack the LCD and then what do you have? Not a paper weight! The way the iPad comes apart and makes it convenient for the end user to change a screen. It involves some double sided sticky tape, a couple clips and some small screws. Older devices that were meant to be repaired were not coolest designs. Let’s look at the first bulky laptops. They all started with the big rectangle or square shape! They were all made with big components and a lot of plastic. After tons of screws you can finally get to the insides. The customer could then swap bad parts or add new cards. This has...
