Travel Arrangements for a Business Trip From Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA to Shanghai, China

Passport and Visa: Before even picking out things like a flight and a hotel you need to make sure you have a passport and a visa. It must be a passport that has a 6-month validity beyond the date of arrival. When applying for your passport make sure to do it at least 3-4 weeks to process if you do not already have a passport. A visa will typically cost US residents $140.00-$170.00 dollars. It is highly recommended you start planning the trip at least a month in advance due to the large volume of paperwork that you will need to enter China. Methods of Travel: Since you would be going to Shanghai there isn’t really anything other options but to fly. This is going to be an expensive flight. For a round trip I would expect it to cost around $1,000 or more dollars just for the flight alone. As far as traveling around the city goes your best options are going to be either using the metro station, taxi, or bus. The bus is going to be the cheapest way to get around but also the most confusing unless you can read Chinese and know the city decently well. Most bus drivers will probably not know much English. The metro is going to be your second cheapest option but will be more crowded and not all the stations have English signs. If you choose to take a taxi around the city, then make sure you have directions in Chinese to give to your driver. You should especially have directions that lead to your hotel that you plan...
