How to prepare to complete job application and pass skills test for IT Computer Support Job

Preparing for a career in the Information Technology field is rather straight forward. There is preparation you can do to make it even smoother. When filling out a job application it is important to know everything that is going to be asked on the application and how to fill it out. There are online (email or upload) applications as well as physical applications. Most will just ask simple questions about you and have a response section. Some require a resume to be submitted along with an application. Often times, employers will deploy skill tests to make sure you are as qualified as you claim in your resume and meet their requirements. It may be useful to take practice tests or lookup sample questions on the internet. They will give you technical skill tests along with personality tests, so it’s important to understand your strengths and weakness technically and personally before you begin the application process. Job applications or ads will usually have skill requirements; it is important to understand these and make sure that you include them in your application or resume. Every application that I have ever filled out has had a reference section. Make sure you choose references carefully and ensure that they will give positive feedback. Applications are the first test or wave of screening to see who gets the job, so it is important to be as prepared as can be.   Q: Do you prefer working as an individual or a team? (Personality Test) A: Both. I work great with people, but some tasks are better left to an individual. Q: What is the...

Windows 10 Productivity Improvements

Cortana Cortana is what Microsoft calls a digital agent. What is a “digital agent”? It’s one of the first things that a new Windows 10 user will experience. I was hoping for James Bond’s computer construct counterpart meets Hackerman from Fung Fury, but technology is not quite there yet. The Cortana software is really an interface to other features of the Windows 10 operating system. If the PC is setup with a microphone and the correct settings, you can talk to it. This has the same functionality as typing in the taskbar. Users will need to click the microphone icon in the taskbar to make her “listen”. Cortana can handle reminders and timers with ease. It can even send emails, manage lists, and calendars. My favorite feature is that it can open apps for you. This digital agent feature is exciting because it seems like budding artificial intelligence technology. I hope I’m around someday when new operating systems only function through microphones and AI. Set These Tabs Aside – Edge Browser I can see you rolling your eyes already. Microsoft’s web browsers are the Nickelbacks of computer technology, everyone’s punching bag. Other, more popular web browsers don’t come with a feature like this. There are extensions available, but those are not always the smoothest apps. Tabs can add up in a hurry. They’re not always relevant but it can be a heartbreaker if we lose them. Users can keep their tabs for later browsing and clear the row of tabs for an uncluttered page with this feature. Simply click the icon when you’re ready to manage the tabs. Multiple...

CREATE A CYBER-SAFE RESUME FOR ONLINE USE

Identity theft is a world-wide problem and is growing at an alarming rate.  When searching for a job online, there is the potential of encountering dishonest advertisers and deceptive websites. To ensure your privacy and protect information about you and previous employers from surfacing on the web, consider adding a cyber-safe resume to your file of custom resumes.  By modifying the content of your resume, you will be able to recreate a line of privacy and protection, which will help deter information circulating on the internet. Limited contact information makes it hard for your identity to be stolen.  Remember, your resume can potentially exist on the internet forever.  Cyber-safe resumes are to be used for responding to online job postings.  Following are a few tips which you should take under consideration when posting your resume online. MINIMIZE PERSONAL INFORMATION:  Remove home address, phone numbers and email addresses.  Instead, include an unlisted cell phone number and a generic email address. SUMMARY:  Remove any specific or thorough information that can identify your place of employment. EMPLOYMENT:  Remove your employer's name and replace it with a nonspecific but accurate description.
