Today, your greatest information source lies right at your fingertips.  It is the world-wide web (“www” or “web”)! The web is an information space where documents and other web resources are identified by Uniform Resource Locators (URLs), interlinked by hypertext links and easily accessible through the internet.  Countless “how to’s” and do-it yourself “diy” imaginable is sourced on numerous websites.  And the leading forum specializing in internet-related searches, including webpages, images, videos and more in Google.  Google is the perfect place to find instructions for disassembling and reassembling laptop, Ultrabook, and mobile device repair, and much more. Notice, the snip (or partial screenshot) of the Google search engine below or Chrome browser (Google and Google Chrome have similar names, but different details –  Chrome is a web browser developed by engineers at Google). After typing in whatever you want to search, press the Enter key on the keyboard of your computer. Choose the most specific or relevant keywords or phrases to describe your topic, for example:  “how to disassemble an iPhone 4S?” and press ENTER on your keyboard. To maximize your search research, give specific details about the product, such as manufacturer’s name and version.  Next, access your results.  Use the tabs at the top to help define what type of search you want.  For “how to,” I would suggest a video.  In the image above, the first search result shows a guide in a portable document format (commonly referred to as “pdf” which is a file format used to present and exchange documents reliably), and the second is a YouTube link.  The more information you have, the better! ...

What is one of the greatest technological advancement to-date?  If you answered, “the phone,” you are exactly right.  Mobile phones have come a “long way, baby!”  And the advances are constantly coming.  Mobile phones have made many transformation in a short period.  Phones have gone from being awkward and bulky, to sleek and smart.  In fact, cell phones are descriptive of the past.  Today, we are in an era of smartphones.  Although there is no simple definition, a smartphone can be defined as a phone handset that can also function as a computer.  It’s a phone, entertainment center, email and text forum, and a platform to create, edit, and share documents – and works using a software that supports basic computer functions, such as scheduling tasks and executing applications … like the operating system on a computer. One of the most well-known smartphone device is manufactured by Apple.  Apple uses closed source (or proprietary software, known as iOS) which means the computer programs source code is not published – the source code is not shared with the public for anyone to look at or change.  Apple have found greater popularity with the public, especially with the iPhone, which has been very cleverly marketed.  The first iPhone was released on June 29, 2007, and was defined as “revolutionary” and a “game-changer” for the mobile phone industry.  Since then, billions of units have been sold making iPhone one of the world most valuable publicly traded companies. Because of its popularity, iPhone has released a newer version every year since its first-generation issuance.  The latest version to dominate the stores is, “iPhone...

How to recover user files as part of mobile device repair?

If you have a phone that is not functioning because of damage or other issues, you might be worried about your data. Not having the access to your contacts, calendar, email, and apps, it is impossible to get your work done or to simply communicate. I have two cool apps that you can use to get all your data back to your new phone. 1. The first app is called Smart Switch and you can download this app at Google Play. This app helps you transfer all your contacts, messages, photos, videos, music, calendar events, apps, etc. Smart Switch gives you  three options to transfer your information. The first option is you have to make sure both phones have the Smart switch app on both screens and then it will ask you to select how to transfer and you will need to tap wireless and follow the steps on the app. The second option is USB cable, you need to make sure you have both phones connected to the same USB cable and select the USB Cable option on the app and follow the steps. 2. The second app is called Samsung cloud and is usually a built in app on your Samsung device. This app helps you keep all your data in one place just in case you lost, have stolen, or a broken device. You can easily backup, sync, restore, and have all your information to your new phone. There is a way to setup and manage your preferences from one screen, sync and view your photos from any galaxy device, and backup and restore on...

Dropbox is just one of many cloud-based storage programs. Essentially, you can save files there for you to access when you’re not at home or work. It’s one of the big names in cloud storage and they’re based in San Francisco. Here is a guide to using their free and simple file sharing feature. 1. Start at Dropbox.com This is very straight forward stuff here. If you have gmail and use Google Chrome it’s a breeze. 2. Share a single file. This is just one option for sharing files. Once you have your file(s) uploaded, just select them and click Share. You can select the contacts or email addresses to share them with. You can add multiple recipients and add comments for description. 3. Make a Shared Folder. This option will do exactly what is says. Make separate folders for different topics whether they’re personal or for work.   Just select the members of your shared file group and add a comment.   That’s the file sharing feature of Dropbox. You can get the app on your mobile device and have even greater access to these features.  ...
