This document will assist you in filling out a job application. I will be offering insight on how to do so to the best of your capacity. Let’s start with the basics, or the most obvious aspects and important parts of the application. You need to make sure to include your name, phone number, email, etc. It’s important to include anything that the person interested in hiring you can contact you by. To streamline this, you can have a signature template for emails which include your contact info. Even better if you include this information on your resume, cover letter, and other documents of importance. This enables those that review your job application the ability to easily obtain your information.
Make sure to PDF your documents. PDF will allow you to see your documents exactly as they appear when they’re sent out. It also tends to make you look more professional. And if they ask for a unique form of documentation, make sure to make it appear just as professional as your previous documents. It’s not uncommon to be asked about references or your salary history. You might want to have these documents prepared, as simply including them in an unformatted document would look unprofessional.
If you’re given a choice in what time you feel is adequate for an interview, it’s in your best interests to pick the earliest time being offered. Of course, you want to be certain that you can show up at that time in a professional manner. This will be a boon to your reputation if you can achieve this while also looking professional.
Another way you can keep your professional appearance is by not asking for information that can be easily acquired. You want to avoid asking questions that make you seem neglectful of important details. That’s why it’s important to try and keep a spreadsheet of information. This should be done with every position you apply to.
Even if you don’t fill every requirement, it’s not always a bad idea to apply. I mean, it can’t hurt. If you meet most the of requirements, some position might overlook the details which you lack. Often, they’ll be looking for someone who will can do the job, regardless of whether your application fulfills every specific detail.
This is an important detail. If you don’t get the job, don’t be afraid to ask why. This will no doubt bleed into how to construct your future applications. You might not get an answer, but if you do, it will likely benefit you in the future.
Don’t forget that when applying for a job, when you receive a call from an unknown number, it’s best to answer it in a professional manner, given that it could be someone important.
Regarding applicant tests. There are two different types, the skills test, and the personality test. When you’re taking a personality test, it’s important to try and answer the questions on the test in an honest and consistent fashion. One of the worst mistakes you can make is being disingenuous, as the test will determine if you’re being sincere.
When taking the skills test, it’s more of a matter of common sense. Make sure that you comprehend the content, and that you reread the questions that are being asked. A common mistake that people make is not properly reading or misunderstanding what’s being asked of them. You’re doing yourself a disservice if you rush through the material. In the end, don’t be afraid to ask how you did on the test, and the ways you could potentially improve your ability to take them in the future.
