When having a mid-size company, you would want to head towards the path of technology. Today, most companies are relying on technology to bring better opportunities of further advancement. In this article, I will be discussing everything you need to know about deploying the latest version of IPhone XS Max or any other type of device to all your employees of a mid-size company. The most important thing you need to know is to be prepared for possible changes in your project. A lot of planning will be involved in order to create a great plan of execution. I will be discussing topics such as:
- Shipping Costs
- Phone Coverage
- Number of Devices
- Phone Configurations
When you first start to plan such a large deployment of any device, you would need to find out what kind of device you will be deploying to all employees. In this case, we will be deploying the latest version of IPhone. Find out what the configurations are for that certain device and find out if it will be a good fit for your employees to use. For the IPhone XS Max, the specs are as follows:
- CPU: A12 Bionic
- Storage: 512GB
- Memory: 4GB
- Resolution: 2,688 x 1,242
- Battery: 3,174 mAh
- OS: iOS 12
This will work great because it has the latest version of iOS and the employee will have plenty of storage to save all their work if needed. Also, when planning a deployment, calculate how many employees will need these devices. In this case, 57 users who all work in different states will be getting phones. You also have other things to think about such as backing up important data off those devices. You can use the Cloud Backup services to back up any amount of data your mobile device will store. The cost for backup in a company will be $8 per user per month plus $0.04 per GB used. This will allow your company to only pay for the amount of storage your employees are using.
Next, think about phone coverage for those devices. You would want them to be protected from any damage as possible. Think about purchasing phone cases that would make the mobile devices more durable to damage. There are some good cases that are inexpensive online. For example, I found this phone case that seems to have good reviews and at a low price:
At only $5.08 per case, you are looking to spend around $289.56 which is not too expensive for all the phones you will be purchasing. Also, purchase the warranty for any cracked screens or other related issues so that you won’t break the bank to repair a broken IPhone. Costs for AppleCare+ is $199 Per unit so costs will go up to around $11,343 but there is a different coverage plan that will cover any damages in addition to theft and loss coverage that will run up to $269 which will be around $15,333 for the warranty.
You also have to think about how you will ship your devices out to the employees. By going to the mailing service’s website, you can find out the shipping rates of packages you want to ship. They will offer a variety of options for you to choose from which will have different costs. I chose UPS as my shipping company. The price to ship one package was:
- Milwaukee to Chicago was $21.35 for Ground Service.
- Milwaukee to St. Louis was $21.79 for 2-day Air Service
- Milwaukee to Indianapolis was $20.91 for 2-day Air Service
When purchasing devices, you would most definitely want to invest in more than the amount of devices that you will need for every employee. My rule of thumb is to get 1/3 of the original amount that each employee will get. In this case, I would recommend getting around 76 devices in total. Having 19 available in the event that someone damages their phone. This is because you would want to temporarily replace their phone while it is being sent for repairs. The cost for one IPhone XS Max is $1,449 plus Tax and other activation fees per unit which will cost around $110,124 plus Tax and other activation fees for all 76 devices.
As you can see, there will be a substantial amount of costs involved in this deployment project. You will need to form a team that will help come up with the total cost of the project as well as come up with a schedule of what must be completed by what time. You also have to think about having someone in each city to teach end users how the new devices work and how it should be used in the workplace. You will also have to develop a new Policy which states how devices will be secure and how confidential items have to be secured at all times such as a BYOD Policy.
Purchase and download Microsoft 365 Business for all the IPhones to have. Microsoft has a great plan that includes 1TB of online storage, Supports all devices such as phones, tablets, and PCs. For $20/per month for each user, you have access to many features such as:
- Business class emails (50GB)
- Online meetings (IM, Audio, and HD Video chats)
- Security features which will secure all your documents
- Device management for all devices
For security purposes, you would want to consider purchasing an Anti-Virus application that will not only search for and remove harmful viruses, but also keep all your important confidential files secure from any thief trying to get their hands on them. Fortunately for you, Apple does not require any Anti-virus software to be installed because their security measures are very high up. Just remember to let your employees know that they should always keep their phones up to date with the latest versions because it can include bug fixes and even more improvements on their security.
These are just some tasks that you can use in order to deploy the latest version of IPhones to a mid-size company. I am sure you can use these tasks with any size company as well, there just will be more work for you to do for a larger scale company. Remember to assemble a team who will help you come up with a plan and always consider every cost there will be in the whole project. Also, plan for any unexpected events that could interfere with the completion of your project. Always start off with a list of tasks and work with your team to come up with more important tasks.
