Key Considerations when Creating a resume and cover letter for IT Computer Support Job

Creating an outstanding resume for a successful position is tricky at times. Adding your IT Computer Support Specialist experience and schooling is a plus. Although we are experiencing some unpredenitent times due to COVID19, it is very difficult to obtain a job with any employer. If you do have a job or searching you are aware that you will have to wear a mask, bring your own pen, wear gloves, wash hands, and be sure to stand six feet apart. Due to this virus, everything is going virtual, that is the new normal. So, you must be sure that your resume is formatted and organized correctly. Your resume is an overview of what you have done in the past and implies what you can do for that employer in the future. Therefore, its main job is to sell your qualifications and should support your professional career objective. Whereas a cover letter underscores how your skills and accomplishments, along with your career goals, make you an outstanding candidate for that position.

When writing a cover letter, you should include the date, address, and salutation. The body of the cover letter should include a display of your knowledge of the reader’s company or group. Briefly describe your qualifications and accomplishments and identify the relevant job title. Answer the question within the body, “Why should I hire you” relate yourself to the company. Take the initiative, request action, ask for an interview, suggest a time to meet, and tell the employer when you will call. Finally add a Sincerely, yours closing with your name and your wonderful resume attached. Your cover letter should be a great detailed introduction to your outstanding resume. Your cover letter should make the employer want to spend more than those 7 to 10 seconds reading your resume.

Your resume is a key document needed to get you a successful job in the IT field. You must remember that an employer has 7 to 10 seconds to scan your resume to see if you are a great fit. It is very important to include all relevant experience and skills first on your resume.  Of course, be sure to name, address, telephone number, and email address. Also, add any online portfolios or professional job websites like linked, Indeed, Milwaukee jobs, and purple briefcase. Always remember to make sure your credentials on your resume match that of your online profile. Make sure they are both professional and create an outstanding image of yourself. You must also include some more important points like, a professional objective or summary, which is a statement of what you want to do and of your qualifications and experience. Include your educational background, name, location of college/university attended, grade point average, and your major and minor areas of study. Include employment history such as the company name, length of employment, and job titles. That should also include volunteer work, internships, and service-learning work. Include selected information from your job description that potential employers might find of interest. Accomplishment statements that show your achievements and contributions to an organization. Include a list of skills you have acquired, any foreign language you have, and any other areas you have received additional training in. Include honors and activities relevant to your objective, projects, and publications you have worked on or military experience. Outside of the required fields be sure to check spelling and grammar type and proofread the final copy, utilize the space on the paper, do not use odd, color, style, or font, and use active words. Another important fact to remember is to keep your resume to one or two pages, if your resume is two pages, make sure all key selling points appear on the first page. Make sure the resume is easy to read and scan. If these steps are followed there should be no way you would not be a great candidate for the position. Believe in yourself and your experience and the sky will be the limit.
